Dear friends of Community Development NGO, Youth Exchanges without Borders, and all participants,

This morning, we received a briefing from the EU Mission in Armenia (EUMA), which was organized at short notice. The session provided insights into the mission’s civilian mandate, its daily monitoring activities along the Armenian–Azerbaijani border, and its role in fostering stability and confidence-building in the region.

In the afternoon, we visited the demonstration orchard of the Community Development NGO (formerly Syunik‑Development NGO) in the Vayots Dzor region. The site showcases modern horticultural practices, including dwarf apple and pear varieties, drip irrigation, and anti-hail netting. The orchard serves as a regional learning hub, promoting sustainable fruit production and peer-to-peer knowledge exchange.

Background information on the EUMA:

Since 2023, the European Union Mission in Armenia (EUMA) monitors the border regions with Azerbaijan to contribute to stability and peace. Deployed at Armenia’s request, the mission observes and reports on the security situation, helping reduce tensions and build confidence between the sides. EUMA reflects the EU’s commitment to regional security, dialogue, and a peaceful resolution of the conflict. The mission also supports Armenia’s resilience and cooperation with European partners, fostering stability in a fragile geopolitical context.
